Kids Yoga
Introduction:
The Kids Yoga course, designed by the Blossom Yoga Center, aims to introduce kids to the science of Yoga at an early age. The course, developed under the direct guidance of Sri M, aims at holistic development of the children on a physical, mental and spiritual level. This program is suited for children who express an interest in learning Yoga, or for parents that wish to introduce their children to Yoga. A holistic Yoga practice started early in a child’s life, and practiced regularly, can bring about better physical and mental health, calmer mind and thereby greater concentration and increased self-awareness
Course Objectives:
Introduces asana & pranayama and basic Yoga philosophy to the child at an early age
Build a regular practice of Yoga as part of their regular life that can lead to the following benefits:
better physical health – flexibility & strength
improved focus and clarity of thought
improved memory
learning to manage their emotions
Have fun while learning this valuable life skill
Begins a lifelong journey of learning the rich philosophy and science of Yoga and making it a strong and positive undercurrent of the child’s life
Course Structure & Curriculum:
This course is designed for children between 8 – 13 years old. Designed in an engaging style to get children to enjoy their first interaction with Yoga, the course has been designed to introduce children to Asanas (postures), Pranayama (breathing practices), Yamas & Niyamas (rules & regulations in our daily lives). By the end of the course, the child will have learnt foundational yoga techniques to integrate into a regular personal practice.
The course will cover the following
Asanas:
Sukshma Vyayama: Sukshma Vyayama are warm up exercises to improve the flow of Prana ( life energy) in the body. These are simple, easy and can be done at any time to relieve stress, remove toxins from the joints and improve circulation in the body
Surya Namaskar: also known as salutations to the Sun is a classic series of twelve postures which weave together to generate prana (subtle energy), aiming towards the purification and rejuvenation of the practitioner
Yoga M postures: Yoga M are a sequence of postures conceived by Sri M for daily practice. It comprises of simple Yoga routines to help the aspirant by bringing in a greater sense of self-awareness, improved health, gratitude and discipline
Balancing and core strengthening postures: to help improve balance and thereby concentration and core strength to help overall development of the child
Relaxation: relaxation is a very important, and often neglected, component of a holistic asana routine. It allows the body to absorb prana (life energy) and rejuvenate after a complete asana practice
Pranayama: Children will learn sectional breathing, anulom-vilom (alternate nostril breathing) and bhramari (bumble bee humming) pranayamas during the class
Children will have a story time that will focus teaching important moral lessons pertaining to Yamas & Niyamas and other important lessons from Indian philosophy
Lastly they will learn the basic theory of yoga and also complete a project that focuses on applying what they learn in class in their daily lives. Yoga theory will include:
Introduction to Ashtanga Yoga
Introduction to Yogasana: meaning, principles and health benefits
Pranayama & health benefits
Yogic Anatomy & relevance to yogic practice
